The building consists of CMU and brick walls, a precast concrete roof structure with modified bituminous roofing and concrete slab/footings on drilled aggregate pier soil reinforcement. The non-safe area features interior metal studs and gypsum board. The University of Southern Mississippi hired McCarty Architects, in association with Hanbury, to design the new Century Park South, a state-of-the-art residence hall for 950 students. This complex completes the second phase of the University’s housing master plan. The new hall provides housing for freshmen and Luckyday Foundation scholarship students in mostly double rooms and some single rooms, all with private baths. Other amenities include large social areas, lounges, meeting spaces, mini-kitchens, study rooms and laundry areas. Also included are offices for the Luckyday Foundation and a student health center. A multi-purpose room connects two of the three buildings at the second floor level. The project is LEED Gold-certified and includes energy-management systems with sensors to monitor temperature and humidity in different zones. Oxygen level monitors ensure fresh air is circulated. It is designed to meet revised USP chapter 797 – (second supplement to USP 31 – NF 26, adopted June 1, 2008) as well as finalized USP chapter 800 for Pharmaceutical Compounding: Sterile Preparations. The Compounding Pharmacy also meets all performance criteria, including construction materials, architectural finishes, temperature and humidity control, room airflow calculations and high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter requirements. The program required creation of more private patient rooms and better amenities for family. McCarty provided full design services for the UMMC Batson Pediatric ICU renovation. The focus of the project was to upgrade the current services to keep up with healthcare trends and medical advances. Along with this goal, UMMC used a family-centered care model to create a more child-friendly environment. There is an Urgent Care component with an additional 9 exam rooms. The clinic contains its own lab and x-ray equipment for complete primary care delivery. The Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Administrative and Training Center includes a 24,750-square-foot building adjacent to the Yokohama Tire Manufacturing plant in West Point, Miss. The facility houses administrative and engineering staff, and provides training space for new employees. The space is also used as a multi-purpose center for events. The lecture hall cross functions as a storm-hardened room which can serve as a shelter in the event of inclement weather. The design is both modern and functional. This project’s scope included an adaptive reuse of an existing metal building originally designed as a hardware store. The scope of work involved the complete renovation of the building envelope with new entries and exterior façade elements. New MEP systems, Fire Protection, and complete Data/Comm system including a state of the art IT server room. Interior is Class A office space with four open office work settings complete with modular furniture and materials designed to improve acoustics, to create a conducive environment for intensive phone and internet trading activities. McCarty Architects provided master planning for this five-phased project that had a six-year schedule. Phase 1 added 100 parking spaces and a new entry drive. Phase 2 provided 16 LDRs, eight-bed OBS suite, and new hospital entry/lobby. Phase 3 included two C-section ORs, three general ORs, a seven-bed recovery suite, pharmacy, lab, and doctor/staff support areas. Phase 4 added a 5,400-square-foot standalone Central Plant to support building growth. The final phase is a 29,000-square-foot, two-story expansion that provides space for a NICU designed with Family Centered Care principals. The unit included 13 semi-private NICU rooms, two four-bed isolation wards and a Family Resource Center. When the design of a new second floor NICU required construction to span over the existing hospital’s outdoor areas it created two awkward zones of covered outdoor space. It quickly became clear that with some innovative thinking these “leftover” areas could become beneficial spaces for patients and visitors—as well as key wayfinding elements for the entire hospital. Two 5,000-square-foot courtyards were developed with very different themes. The Memorial Courtyard located near the Med/Surgery unit evokes a tranquil atmosphere where patients and visitors can get away from the clinical environment. The NMMC Main Unit Hybrid OR, opened in late 2011, is the first of its kind in North Mississippi, providing procedural flexibility and efficiency previously unheard of. Resulting in fewer required surgeries and shorter hospital stays, the hybrid OR provides a multi-procedure, data-rich, fully-integrated facility for minimally invasive cardiothoracic, endovascular, neurosurgery and orthopedic procedures. McCarty King Construction Company did extensive renovations to the property, creating an inviting exterior atmosphere as well as a modern, relaxing interior environment. The facility currently has six dental work stations and lab and administrative work areas.
